In order to preserve, protect and prolong the life of the beautiful copper beech tree in the corner of St John's Churchyard, Mendip District Council has instructed specialists to carry out some remedial work on it. This is scheduled to take place towards the end of March.

The tree is in the order of 150 years old, and the life expectancy of such a tree is in the region of 200 years. The officers of Mendip District Council- it is Mendip District Council that has the responsibility for the upkeep, care and maintenance of the churchyard and the trees therein- have been monitoring the condition of the tree for several years and are now of the opinion that the proposed work is essential to conserve the tree and avoid any possible danger to persons or property adjacent to the tree.

Once the work has been completed it is hoped that the tree will be there for all to enjoy for years to come.
