Community groups across parts of Somerset are being invited to attend an afternoon event next month which focuses on sustainable energy.

The event, which takes place on Saturday 10 April, is aimed at groups and interested individuals across Sedgemoor, Taunton Deane and West Somerset, and will involve a series of presentations and discussions.

Coordinated by local charity, the Centre for Sustainable Energy [1], with the support of the three local authorities [2], the aim of the event is to develop and progress energy-related projects across the area.

It aims to place the issues of ‘energy’ and ‘sustainability’ onto local groups agendas, as well as mapping existing activity, and further supporting what activity is already taking place. Delegates will be shown examples of projects which will inspire and motivate activity, as well as being given information about local and national support programmes available to them. The afternoon will also offer them the chance to network with likeminded people and give them the opportunity to work with local authority staff to shape the low carbon agenda in their area.

The free event takes place at the Victoria Park Community Centre in Bridgwater, between 12.45 and 17.00 on Saturday 10 April, and places are limited.

Event organiser Karen Lansdown said: “This is a great opportunity for local groups to have their say about what projects they want to do and see in their community, and to find out what support is available to them through local organisations and the council.”

Taking part in the event, is ‘inspirational speaker’ Alexis Rowell, founder of cuttingthecarbon (www.cuttingthecarbon.co.uk), a consultancy which helps businesses, organisations and public bodies to understand climate change an
