The draft design of a pedestrian crossing on the Milford Road put forward by Surrey County Council were discussed at this meeting. Councillors were all very much in favour of the proposal. Councillor Tic Jeffery suggested that the Rodborough School bus should be rerouted so that the students board the bus at Springhill; the advantage being that they would not have to board the bus on the busy Milford Road. Students living on the other side of Milford Road would however still have to cross the road unless a second stop was made at the north side of Milford Rd. This initiative was thought to be a good idea by Councillors. The Chairman was asked to investigate the routing of buses with the Schools Transport officer.

At Public Question Time, Elstead residents agreed that the need for traffic calming measures on the Milford Road had never been so necessary, particularly as the volume of traffic is increasing. Both Surrey County Councillor David Harmer and PC Rob Hawkes voiced their approval for the proposed zebra crossing, saying that it would help to slow traffic down along the Milford Road.

Elstead resident Michael Organe used the meeting to announce that he was trying to set up a Speed Watch Scheme in Elstead. At least six volunteers are needed to record the speed of vehicles driving over the speed limit in Elstead. This information is supplied to Surrey Police so that warnings can be given to the registered keepers of the vehicles. The scheme is proven to be effective in Witley and Hindhead, but is dependant on the efforts of volunteers. Mr Organe planned to advertise the initiative around the village to encourage more people to help, so if you are interested and have a little spare time, look for these notices. Alternatively, if you have access to a computer, email the Elstead Community Speed Watch administrator on elstead30@tiscali.co.uk
for more information.

In addition to the three recycled benches already installed on the Thursley Road Recreation Ground, three more were on order. The three in situ have all been sponsored. The Council is still hoping that local businesses or individuals will consider sponsoring the remaining three.

During the Council's review of spending allocation for 2010/11, it was noted that the Village Hall Committee would again be seeking financial help as major work was planned.

Approval was given for tree clearance work to proceed at the Woolfords Lane Cemetery.
