The Handbridge

Sunday early afternoon, loaded with bags and worn out from shopping. My daughter who lives in Handbridge suggested we try The Handbridge for lunch as it's just round the corner from her home.  I didn't know what to expect from the outside as it seems fairly standard and nondescript, but inside a different story. The original fireplace has been kept but the place is roomy, light and clean with tables not too close together and an attentive but not annoying staff.
A really pleasant dreadlocked member of staff took our drinks order and left us with menu's to decide what we wanted. The choice was very varied and sounde wonderful but we had been told that they also did traditional Sunday roasts as well. My daughter settled for the home made burger while my wife and I had roast beef and yorkshire puds. The burger was a really good size and the plate was nicely dressed. The beef was served with plenty of roast potatoes ( proper ones)and a dish of veg comprising fresh cauli, green beans and fresh asparagus, all nicely cooked and hot. The beefs were two meals for £15.00 and worth every penny. Nice fresh coffee to follow for me while the girls made short work of banana fritter and a sort of eton mess that involved Tia Maria. For a meal out that doesn't break the bank and yet is fairly close to the centre of town and the river I recommend The Handbridge to anyone. My thanks to all the staff and especially the chef(s).
