The Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has visited a former chemical factory in Cambridgeshire after concerns were raised about the clean-up operation there. Villagers in Hauxton just outside Cambridge have complained about the smell and some say it could be making them ill. They want work stopped until it can be proved that the fumes aren't toxic.

Currently, work is being carried out to decontaminate the land at the former Bayer site in Hauxton. This work is causing a foul odour to emanate across our village.

If you feel this odour is affecting you quality of life and you would like it to stop then you should complain to the following agencies/companies:

  •  South Cambs District Council Environmental Health
  Tel: 03450 450 500
Email: env.health@scambs.gov.uk

  • Vertase (This is the company carrying out the work)
Tel: Mike Allsobrook on 07788100782
Email lbuckley@vertasefli.co.uk.
