The nights have started to draw in and autumn beckons, it is time to think about new skills and knowledge. ln your local library, Leap Centre or community centre there are likely to be classes in everything from languages to crafts, from Computing for Grandparents to cookery. The classes range from short taster sessions and workshops to longer courses.
Learning a new skill is not as daunting as might be first supposed, and age is definitely not a barrier. The tutors are trained and experienced in teaching adults, the materials are designed for adult usage and the other students in the class, though very probably a bit apprehensive at being back in the classroom after a number of years, are keen to share and learn.
As well learning new skills adult classes are also a good social events, with people learning together, sharing their experiences and ideas in order to get the best out of the occasion.
Adult classes are also good value, they are rarely more than a few pounds per hour and classes are usually quite small so everyone gets the attention from the tutor they require.
