What is Zumba Fitness?

"There are only a few shortcuts to happiness and dance is one of them"

Zumba fitness is very new to the UK and has grown rapidly over the last 2 years.  It was founded in Columbia by Beto Perez, a fitness instructor when he forgot his class music at home.  He had two options, one was to cancel the class and apologise profusely to all his customers who were eagerly awaiting their workout ... or improvise.  He had a music casette in his car to which he had been listening on his way to the class and decided to use it and "make it up" as he went along.  As he had been a choreographer to Shakira as well as many other celebrities and a professional dancer himself, this was not difficult for him.  His clients so enjoyed the workout, which felt like a party, that they begged him to repeat his "mistake" and so Zumba Fitness was born!

Zumba is now taught in 105 countries and is attended by over 7.5 million participants worldwide.  It is relatively new to the UK, but is growing rapidly.

A typical Zumba class is a one hour, fun-filled, easy-to-follow, calorie-burning dance fitness program based on Latin American music with loads of international ryhthms like Salsa, Merengue, Calypso, Reaggaeaton, to name but a few.  Unlike traditional aerobic classes, Zumba follows an interval training model and keeps the heart rate up for maximum effect.  It works both physically and mentally as the music is uplifting and the moves are fun!

If you have not tried it yet, don't get left behind ... If you are not going to a Zumba class, you are going the wrong way!
