Nocton Dairies Ltd has submitted revised plans for a dairy on land between Nocton and Dunston Heaths. The revised plans are now for 3,770 cows instead 8,100 cows, the anaerobic digestor to be built at the start of the project, increased size of cow housing units with added outside loafing areas etc. HOWEVER, this will still be the BIGGEST dairy unit in the UK and it will be LESS THAN 1 MILE from our village and our neighbouring village of Nocton.
The directors have said that this will be the first phase and that they intend to build up to the original proposal for an 8,100 cow unit once they have "been able to demonstrate that welfare standards can be delivered and environmental responsibilities met"
Many residents are opposed to the location of such a dairy on a 48 acre site traditionally used as arable land, very close to the water table that feeds the beck which runs through Dunston village and will be corresponding with NKDC planning authority to express their concerns.
