Welsh Water investment to bring benefits to Ponde & Llangynidr, Powys

Dwr Cymru Welsh Watercustomers in Powys are set to benefit from two water mains improvement schemesin the area.

 

The company has startedwork replacing old pipes with new plastic ones in Llangynidr and is due tostart work later in the week on a similar scheme in Ponde. These will ensurecustomers continue to receive a top quality and reliable supply of water.


The £25,600 scheme in Llangynidr is scheduled to last for four weeks, and will involveexcavating the roadway to renew one kilometre of water main.

 

We have agreed with PowysCounty Council Highways authority the need for a temporary road closure on DyffrynRoad for the duration of this scheme.

 

The water mainreplacement scheme in Ponde is scheduled to last for 12 weeks and will involverenewing almost two kilometres of water main, threading the new pipeunderground to ensure the scheme is completed as quickly as possible. However,there are small sections of the highway which will need to be excavated to laythe new pipes.

 

We have agreed with PowysCounty Council Highways Authority the need for a temporary road closure on theC0061 for the duration of this scheme. The road will be closed between thejunction of the A470 at Upper Felin Newydd to Ponde House.

 

While both schemesare being carried out, access for residents and emergency services will bemaintained and diversionary routes clearly sign posted.

 

IanWatkins, Welsh Water’s Network Co-ordinator said, “Our work in Llangynidr andPonde is vital to enable us to continue to provide a top quality and reliable watersupply to our customers, and these investments will benefit generations tocome.
