Spec-tacular fundraising from Winchester to Africa

A LOCAL opticians in Winchester has donated over 2,000 pairs of glasses to the vision charity Lions Club International thanks to help from the local community.

 

Specsavers, located in the Brooks shopping centre, has collected the glasses for the locally based charity as part of an ongoing drive to give the gift of sight to people in developing countries.

 

Kirsty Broomfield, store director at Specsavers in Winchester says: ‘We would like to thank everyone for their generosity in donating to such an important cause. Eyecare is something that is often taken for granted in the West, so the fact that we are able to help the Lions club share this gift with people in less fortunate circumstances is truly an honor.’

 

For nearly 100 years, Lions Club International has worked to prevent blindness, restore eyesight and improve eye care for hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Lions volunteer to take part in sight projects that are preventing serious vision loss for more than 30 million people worldwide.

 

Ms Broomfield continues, ‘The collection took just under 12 months and we will continue in our efforts for many more to come.’
