Dwr Cymru Welsh Water is gearing up to start aninvestment scheme on the drinking water network in The Narth near Trellech on19th September.

We are going to replace old water pipes with new plastic ones, which will ensure that customers continue to receive a top quality and reliablesupply of water direct to their taps.

Water distribution manager KevinBateman said: “This is a big scheme for us, and we anticipate that it will take24 weeks to complete, so we are going to be working in the local community forsome time.  We’re actually going toreplace 6.7 kilometres of water mains from Greenway Lane, and will be going through TheNarth village and Pen y Fan.

“We will be able to do alot of the work in the grass verge, but where the pipes are laid in the road, then we have no choice but to replace them there. To work quickly and safely we’llhave to use a series of two and three-way traffic lights and also, in somesituations, close the road where it is too narrow.  People can be assured that we will alwaysadvertise what we are going to do in advance, and clearly mark diversions.

“We’ve written to everyonewho will be directly impacted by the scheme and also held a drop-in informationevent, to which all were invited. We’ll do our best to get the job done and getout of the area with the least possible fuss, and we hope that people will bearwith us whilst we are doing this work, which will benefit the local communityfor years to come.

“If anyone has missed theinformation that we posted out to customers, or were unable to make theinformation day, and still have questions, then please get in touch and we’lldo our best to help.”

Welsh Water is investing heavily and working hard toensure top quality services to all its communities. The company is investing£1.3 billion in its water and sewerage network between 2010 and 2015.
