I first started looking after cats just over 5 years ago, other peoples cats that is.
I had taken my much loved pets to a Cattery the year before, going to collect them only to find them without water and having to knock the owner up out of bed at 11 am to 'rescue' them.
I vowed then and there never to leave 'my babies' locked in a 'cell' ever again.
Talking to a local lady cat owner I discovered that she felt the same. She became my 1st customer.
I enjoy calling in to see my charges, they are all different, some are full of greetings, wanting to be fussed, some are indifferent to my presence, lying in their beds, watching me clean up and prepare the tasty food left by their owners, some hide, not for long though, they may be a little timid or suspicious at first but I just let them get used to me.
I find that talking to them, even the hidden ones, whilst I am washing bowls, scooping 'poop' and preparing breakfast or tea, helps, they seem to enjoy the human voice, some owners leave a radio on when they go on holiday!
As well as caring for the cat or cats belonging to my customers, I'm happy to take over the care of other house pets such as Hamsters, Guinea Pigs, Fancy Mice & Rats, Rabbits, Ferrets, tanks full of fish of any type etc.
As long as they have been used to being handled, none of them are a problem to me.
I refuse to look after cage birds as 2 visits a day is not enough company for the poor little things, they need to have some one with them most of the time.
My customers are happy that their home is being checked twice a day, post and leaflets picked up and put out of sight, house plants watered and their precious pets are safe in their own home. I get to make friends with some beautiful cats and look forward to seeing them each time 'mum and 'dad' go away for a well earned rest! Kerris Milligan
