Warwickshire based Polish Airmen Remembered

Warwickshire based Polish airmen who lost their lives whileserving with the RAF during the Second World War have been remembered.

On Sunday 6th November, members of the Polish Ex-CombatantsAssociation were joined by representatives of other local Ex-serviceAssociations and Air Cadet drummers from the band of 121 (Nuneaton)Squadron who led the procession for a Remembrance Service at the St John the Baptist Cemetery, Bagintonnear Coventry Airport.The Service was held to remember the valour of the Polish Airman who lost theirlives whilst serving with the RAF in the area during the Second World War.

Paul Hincks of 121 Squadron said, “We arealways delighted to be able to attend the Polish Ex-Combatants Association RemembranceService. It's so important that we don't forget the ultimate sacrifice made byso many fallen Polish airmen who served with the RAF at local airfields during the war”.

“We haveteamed up with the ‘Rwetes’ Scout Group from ZHP Puszczykowonear Poznań in Poland who also have an interest in the history of Polishairmen serving with the RAF. 

“Such is the growing relationship between the young peopleof 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron and the ‘Rwetes’ Scout Groupin Poland, a wreath bearing the name of both youth groups was laid at thePolish war graves during this years service at Baginton.The ‘Rwetes’ Scout Group will return the honor on Remembrance Dayby laying a poppy wreath on behalf of 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron at theCommonwealth Garrison Cemetery in Poznan. This cemetery holds the graves ofBritish Prisoners of War, among others, those of the Great Escape as well asmany British Airmen.”
