UKVillages.co.uk
Launched in April 2000 UKVillages provides a free community website and tailored internet portal for every single village, town and city suburb across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (31,500+). Anyone can post to their community site, local issues, local photographs, notices & events, societies & groups, trades & services and items for sale or wanted. Any local notices posted are shown for free in a 4-mile radius, and the nearest town, making it a great way for communities to share information.

Parish IDBuilder at http://www.idbuilder.co.uk
Parish IDbuilder works alongside UKVillages.co.uk to provide your council with a unique website that's easy to find and promote.

The images on the left show how a Parish IDbuilder progresses from initial set-up to a proper website. Anyone can view information placed on the website publicly.

There are three access levels for members on every Parish IDbuilder:
  • Users can login but are unable to add or edit notices.
  • Editors can login, add and edit notices.
  • Administrators can login, add and edit notices and change website colours and menus.
Each Parish IDbuilder can have as many Users, Editors and Administrators as needed - there is no limit - so there is no need to filter information through one overworked person, editors can simply update the website themselves.

Editors can create notices, which can be laid out anyway they'd like including image and attachments. Parish notices can also appear your UKVillages communities, which would greatly increase their visibility. We recommend that you include:
  • Latest news
  • Meeting dates
  • Agendas and minutes
  • Events
  • Parish plans
  • Useful contacts
  • and any other information you wish
Remember that you can change as much or as little of your website as you'd like - select colours that match your logo or keep the default colours and just set the button menu. It is entirely up to you!

Other Projects

town2town.org.uk
UKVillages has undertaken a project in conjunction with the Gloucestershire Market Towns Forum to link together the councils and active community groups in and around Gloucestershire to offer information on best practice, funding and policy, and this can be found at http://www.town2town.org.uk

UKVbroadband.co.uk
'The UKV Broadband Place' was launched by Stephen Timms, MP, DTI minister and has proved informative and useful. The Broadband Place offers information on how to get broadband, how to generate local interest, what to do if you are unable to get it, and importantly what the benefits to community groups and businesses are. Local schemes can be promoted to maximise publicity and to share best practice. This project demonstrates examples of partnership working at local and national level. Check out the Citizens Broadband Forum too, it's the place for individuals, communities, local groups and businesses to swap ideas, case studies, warnings and concerns about broadband and related issues.

What do you want from your local Parish Council?
UKVillages.co.uk undertook a survey (in association with The Countryside Agency and NALC - the National Association of Local Councils) to find out what you wanted from your Parish Council. Responses have been collected and are being used to inform central government about local views on Parish Councils. To see the results yourself simply click below. It is a PDF, so you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the document.
