A couple of years ago I discovered a grass-covered broken headstone in the churchyard which had not been recorded during visits by the MI recorder of the Somerset & Dorset Family History Society c.1975 and in 1999. It is situated just south of the south-east corner of the church's chancel.
As far as I have been able to decipher it reads:
'To The Memory of/James Wilmot/June 6 1837/Aged 42 Years' [The parish register shows burial of a James Wilmot on 12th June 1837]
'... Memory of/... Styles/Died Aug .../Aged 75 Years/Mary his Wife/April 20 1829/...' [The parish register shows the burial on 29th August 1831 of a James Styles, and on 25th April 1829 of a Mary Styles]
'William son of the .../James and Mary/who died March 10 1860/Aged 70 Years' [The parish register shows the burial on 18th March 1860 of a William Styles. There was also a marriage on 8th February 1831 of a James Wilmot and Elizabeth Styles]
